This framework doesn't provide examples in practice. Instead it succinctly states the case why well-designed middle years programs are necessary while explaining the required characteristics they must have. This leaves educators to determine how to innovate their own programs according to the needs of their community while meeting the intent of the framework. A must for ALL educators, but especially middle school teachers (and principals too!)
This is an excellent book about how middle school education should be accomplished. It gives many important suggestions and guidelines that will help young adolescent students. It is well worth reading, and the ideas given are ones your school should be using!
Whether you are new to middle level education or a veteran who wants a quick refresher on why you do what you do, this book is a must-read. Unlike so many other books dealing with education, this one won’t put you to sleep. It’s written in normal English (rather than “educationese”), easy to read, organized nicely, and relevant to the real world we live in, not some “lab site". Read it, and keep it handy for future reference.
Fantastic book that all middle school educators should read. It lays out very clearly and easily, why middle school deserves its own structure and format. This book has changed my practice as a middle school leader.
